Autonomous Systems Basic Training and Application Certificate Program successfully completed
Autonomous systems technology plays a crucial role in today’s rapidly advancing fields such as industry, defense, transportation, and robotics. These systems are capable of operating in environments where direct human control is not physically possible and offer the potential to introduce entirely new capabilities. In order to support professional development in this field, the Istanbul Gelisim University Continuing Education Application and Research Center (IGU SEM) organized the Autonomous Systems Basic Training and Application Certificate Program for the first time. The program was held face-to-face for a total of 30 hours on December 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, and 25, 2025, at the IGU F Block.
The program was conducted by Lecturer Ali Cetinkaya, Head of the Autonomous Systems Technician Program at Istanbul Gelisim University Vocational School. It provided participants with the opportunity to learn the fundamental building blocks of autonomous systems, sensor technologies, as well as decision-making and control mechanisms.
Within the scope of the training, participants were introduced to communication protocols commonly used in autonomous systems such as I2C, SPI, and CAN, learned ADC (Analog-to-Digital Conversion) and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) applications, developed basic programming skills using Python, and gained experience with Google Colab and GitHub platforms. They also explored professional networking opportunities through LinkedIn. In addition, participants examined application examples of autonomous systems in various sectors including industry, defense, transportation, and robotics, thereby gaining sectoral awareness.
During the training session held on December 24, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Gonen from the Cyber Security Application and Research Center and the Department of Computer Engineering contributed to the program with sessions on cybersecurity and PLC systems. Furthermore, Dr. Ercan Aykut, a faculty member from the Computer Technologies Robotic Applications and Research Center and the Department of Electrical Engineering, supported the training with field-oriented application examples focusing on microcontrollers and PLC systems. These contributions enabled participants to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practical experience and to enhance their professional competencies.
The program equipped participants with the ability to understand the fundamental components of autonomous systems, sensor and perception systems, and the interrelationships between decision-making and control loops. Participants also gained competencies in developing basic sensing and control applications, understanding the principles of path planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms, and recognizing widely used communication protocols. As a result, participants not only enhanced their professional knowledge and skills but also acquired sustainable learning and application experience in the field of autonomous systems.
Participants who successfully completed the program earned Istanbul Gelisim University–approved certificates.
